Hope everyone is having a blessed Advent. As we head into the last Sunday of the season and look forward to the feast of Christmas it is time to take a look at how we are going to make the new season meaningful to our families.

How are your observances and focuses going? We have been celebrating our feast days here, but I have not been as successful with my monthly focus of afternoon quiet and prayer as I was last month with morning prayer. I fully intend to carry that over on the bottom of my sheet.

To that end I have found a couple of things to help me out. I signed up for the Gospels in a Year which delivers content from the gospels and commentary to your inbox each day. If you read everyday you will have read all four gospels in an entire year. Small and doable. I am also using the blank intentions calendar to remember specific intentions for my afternoon prayer.

Christmas tree Living Liturgy :: Everyday SnapshotsPinAs for the kids, we are going to try to keep the twelve days in a more celebratory manner. I am going to push to keep the tree up and should make it until Jan 4 at least. We are also saving cookie baking and gingerbread for the post-December 25 celebration.

Holy Innocents – We will read the story of Herod’s rampage and pray for the souls of all babies who have died. “The Coventry Carol” is a particular favorite of mine, so we will play that one and learn the first verse.

Mary, Mother of God – We will attend Mass on Jan. 1 and celebrate with a simple treat and maybe tea or hot chocolate.

Epiphany – A blessing of the home is in order. We have never done this and I want to make it happen this year. Seems like a good day to enjoy a simple tea with a king cake (canned cinnamon rolls most likely). Song: We Three Kings
