When I sat down one evening and poured out all the minutiae on living the faith with our family that had been swirling in my brain, I never expected it to strike a chord with so many people. But it has been consistently one of the most popular posts on the blog since it was written (nothing will ever surpass those traceable numbers), and people have responded positively through comment and email. And they told me that they would also like to work on building habits of the faith — a living liturgy, if you will, in their own domestic churches.

So with a bit of prayer, I started thinking about how I could go about shaping our own family liturgies and give those who desire to join some tools and a community to work on theirs as well. From that Living Liturgy was born. So, what is it all about?

  • First it is a series of tools — forms and resources you can use to create your own plan of action for deepening your family’s faith-life.
  • It is also a monthly collection of links where you can share your plans for the upcoming month, discuss areas where you want to focus your energy, and maybe gather some wisdom from fellow moms.
  • Finally, it is the occasional guest post from ladies who have a bit of wisdom to share on the subject.

Now, for what Living Liturgy is not. It is not expert advice from someone who does all this just perfectly. I am a traveler on this road just like you. It is an invitation to share in my journey. It is also not intended to be a litany (ha!) of cute liturgical year ideas. I think the internet already has that covered. I would like for the focus to be on having a plan and then the execution of said plan regardless of what you decide to do — that will vary from family to family.

We are coming up on the new Church year, a fresh slate which starts with the bang of a liturgical high season. (Does anyone else have a great Advent and Christmas and then fizzle at the end of December or is that just me?) So over the next few weeks look for some posts about forms and resources and some guest posts to inspire you as you look ahead to the new year. And on November 22 we will have our first link-up where you can share your plans for the month of December. I do hope you join me!
