Jimmie over at Jimmie’s Collage recently posted a wonderful list of resources she would use if she had no money for curriculum. I thought this was a fantastic idea. We are blessed with many homeschool resources, but we love FREE too. As my kids are much younger than hers, I thought I would share some for the younger set.

General
Lesson Pathways – Lessons and links for all subjects for preschool through third grade.
Homeschool Share – Free unit studies and lapbooks you can use with your library.
AmblesideOnline.org -You can use the entire curriculum or just pull from the reading list. Many of the books can be found in free digital versions online (and the links are there!)
YouTube – There is a wealth of educational videos here amongst all of the junk. So far this year we have found audio books, songs on every topic imaginable (math, days of the week, grammar, etc), a video clip that shows a working steam shovel, cormorant fishing,  and even a documentary clip on how jeans are made that shows the process from cotton plant to store.

Math
MEP – We do use this one. Totally free math curriculum for kindergarten through high school.
NC Math Resources for K-2 – Many great ideas. I need to plan a day to go through and pull out the ones I want to use.
Kahn Academy – OK, I am kind of cheating here. There are some resources for the very young, but the value of this website are the videos for the older set.

Reading
Starfall.com – Fantastic program for preschool and learning to read. Both of my older kids have spent time here.
Progressive Phonics – Another one we use and like. All the materials you need to teach reading and writing. Free registration required.

Literature/Books
Librivox.org –  Audio versions of public domain books. You can listen you your computer or download to your MP3 player. These are read by volunteers, but many are really good.
Project Gutenburg – Public domain books including old textbooks. Free and downloadable to your computer or reading device.
