I almost didn’t take this class. After all, it is called Everyone Can Write a microblog1PinLittle. And well, yeah I can. The class description promised that I would get over my inability to write on my scrapbook pages using the online social networks Facebook and Twitter. Anyone who has seen my scrapbook pages knows that I have no writing block. In fact, sometimes it is hard to get me to shut up with the writing. I love to tell stories. But, I took the plunge with the class anyway. The concept intrigued me so much I couldn’t leave it alone. Boy am I glad I didn’t.

I have been a Facebook user for a few months now. I can’t remember what got me started on there, but I have enjoyed connecting with old (and current) friends and seeing what they are up to. The status bar has always made me a bit uncomfortable. Who would be remotely interested in the minutiae of my days? But I update it from time to time. Mostly because I so enjoy reading the status bar updates of others. I typically ignore requests, gifts, and most quizzes. I don’t play any of the time-sucking games. I am not much of a poker. I rarely have time to answer 100-question notes. But I do love to read the status of my friends and comment on occasion.

I have a Twitter account, but I am not sure why and didn’t used it much. I really could not see the point in that one at all.

Now, my entire outlook on these two websites is totally changing. The concept is called microblogging. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before, but the idea is that the things I write on Facebook and Twitter are not for the benefit of others, but instead, for the benefit of ME! Me the mom who wants to remember things. Me the scrapbooker who is keeping a record. Me the person who has the computer up all day anyway. Me the gal who doesn’t always have time to whip out a full-fledged blog post. Twitter and Facebook are the perfect places to save little bits of the day.

I have tried the old scrapbooking trick of keeping notebooks lying around. Never used them. Then I went hi-tech and started a Word file on the computer. Didn’t remember to open it. This, on the other hand, is so easy. And because I can only use 140 characters at a time, so low pressure. Who doesn’t have time to type in 140 characters?

So if you are a friend of mine on Facebook, I apologize now for the increase in status updates. If they bore you please feel free to remove me from your home page.  If you are into this kind of thing you can find me there or follow me on Twitter (code name:  threeturn). I also put my latest Tweets on the sidebar over there. Even if I am not blogging, I just might be microblogging and you can get the latest scoop.

BTW, the fantastic class is still accepting registrations. This is perfect for the scrapbooker and non-scrapbooker alike. I already learned so much and was so inspired by the first presentation. We will be taking some of our favorite Tweets and putting them into a little album, but the super-cool instructor has already done all the album design for us. Hey, it’s true – Everyone CAN Write a Little. Check it out.
